We started and ended our tour of Norway in Oslo. However, so as not to confuse the viewer, all Oslo pictures will be shown on the same page.
When reviewing these Oslo pictures, I was surprised to discover there were no pictures of the Oslo streets! This is contrasted with the pictures for Stockholm and Copenhagen - there are lots of pictures of city steets. That implies we did not find Oslo to be an especially photogenic city. But the fiords of Norway were a different story. Because of them, Norway was our favorite Scandinavian country.
Oslo does have some nice places to visit. The City Hall was amazing beautiful inside. We were also impressed with the lack of security which implies there is a dearth of terrorists.
We did not venture inside the parliment building, but photographed it for posterity. Each Scandinavian country has ceremonial guards at such buildings. It was interesting to see how the guard houses and uniforms differed from country to country.
The second fountain pictured below was fascinating, formed by many individual pipes each of which forms a small circle of water. These circles then merge to form the hemisphere of water.
The Akershus Fortress is located at a formerly strategic military site.

We reached the Viking Ship Museum by taking a bus for a short (10 minute) ride. The museum contains three reconstructed Viking ships, plus other artifacts. It helped make the Viking voyages seem real.
The Folk Museum was withing walking distance of the Viking Ship Museum. More than 100 buildings have been reassembled on the 35 acres of this museum. Many are open for tours and demonstations.
Photos 1 & 2 were taken in a Russian musuem which relates the interactions of the countries. Photo 3 shows the making of unlevened bread.

After we left the Folk Museum, we took a ferry back to the center of town.
