ZERMATT

Sunday, Dec. 10th
Zermatt is pretty, but very touristy.

The trip is not worthwhile just for the view of the Matterhorn.. To make it worthwhile, need to take the train (extra money) from Zermatt (1604 m) to Gornergrat (3089 M). The ski trail from Gornergrat was only of intermediate difficulty and in excellent condition. I can see why Zermatt is such a popular ski area. There is no comparable ski run at Jungfraujoch. At Gornergrat there was a large hotel!

At Gornergrat there were some clouds at that level so it was not possible to tell how many mountains were really there. But the Matterhorn was about 90% visible, so the scenery was still very nice. Perhaps because of the visibility, I later decided the views in the Bernese Oberland area are much better.
