On the way to the Petrified Forest we approach Mt. Humphrey's which is part of the San Fransisco mountains.
Continuing onward, we made a brief stop at the Meteor Crater which was a very impressive hole in the ground. Plus the "museum" contained an Applo test capsule.
The Painted Desert is colocated with the Petriied Forest; that is, it is all one National Park. There are two entrances - the southern one is where most of the petrified wood is and the northern one is where most of the desert formations are.
The first photo has some painted desert formations on the left
and petrified wood on the right,
The petrfied wood in the last photo was for sale at a shop outside of the National Forest. We think it was probably polished.
Near the shop was this petrified wood "sculpture".
