We stayed at the Shanghai Metropole which is an old hotel, but in good condition. It was a 5 minute walk from the Bund - a collection of neat buildings and a walk along the river. Since this was where we and most other tourists spent most of their time in Shanghai, we could not have had a better hotel location.

The Shanghai Museum is in the People's Park. It has the best collection of historical artifacts in all of China. Below are some representive pieces of art. The Chagall painting was part of a special exibition, not part of the permanent collection.
