Dick working on pictures for the web, Observatory, Pele Goddess of Volcanoes
We took a 25 mile ride from the craters towards the ocean, to get closer to where there is an active lava flow. The second picture shows steam rising from that flow as it enters the ocean. We were not able to drive close to the lava flow because a prior flow has closed the road to traffic about 5 miles from the active flow.
These pictures were take near where the road terminated.
And now for lots and lots of lava pictures. We found the lava varied and beautiful.
One walk we took led to thousands of petroglyphs.
There were lots of Nene crossing signs, but we did not see any of these geese in the park.
Another walk we took went past steam vents and led to a some sulpher deposits and even sulpher crystals.
