KAUAI
Sandy and Dick have traveled to Hawaii in 2007 (May 22 - June 6) and 2009 (May 25 - June 5).
The 2007 trip consisted of going to Kauai, the Big Island, and stopping for a few hours to see Cindy and Chris in California.
For the 2009 trip, we first went to Maui, followed by a half day visit on Oahu to visit nephew Rob' family, and then on to Kauai.
At the end of the 2009 vacation we visited Cindy and Chris in California for a few days.
Bill and Chris Queen's house is in
Kapaa
A mile from Chris and Bill's house is a nice view, plus
Hoopii Falls.
Anahola River is north of Kapaa
The
Kilauea Wildlife Refuge is a great spot to see birds and also a nice lighthouse.
Hanalei is our favorite town on Kauai.
Some Beaches near Hanalei
Other Hanalei Sights
Tunnels is a great place to snorkel and is also very beautiful. It is 8 miles beyond Hanalei and has very limited parking. We parked a half mile away and walked along the beach. If you are lucky, you park in a small road at the entrance to Tunnels and walk along a covered trail (3).
4) A house close to the entrance to Tunnels.
Bali Hai greats you upon arrival at Tunnels.
This amazing tree is a great place to establish camp.
HEADING SOUTH from KAPAA

There is a weekly

We kayaked on the
Wailua River up to
Fern Grotto. It was about 1 hour one way.
5) After returning downstream, Sandy and Dick continued on to the
sandbar at the mouth of the Wailua River.
While in
Lihue, we ate at
Duke's which has a great view of the ocean, plus good food.
On Memorial Day Weekend there is the
Kauai Polynesian Festival in Lihue
Coffee Plantation
Hanapepe
Glass Beach and
Japanese Graveyard
Lucy Wright Beach has green sand and small green crystals.
We liked
Poipu for its tunnel of trees, Spouting Horn, Monk seal, and pretty beach.
Near Poipu is
Gillin Beach. The road there is very rough, but worth the drive.
1)
Menehune Fish Pond 2) A nice view
On the way to the airport, Chris and Bill showed us Wailua Falls. Because of the recent dry spell the water flow was much reduced from normal.
On the 2007 vacation, we went from Kauai to the
Big Island of of Hawaii where we spent another week in paradise.
