On the way from North Carolina to New Hampshire for Thanksgiving/Xmas, we stayed two nights with Sandi and Ben Zuber in Staunton, Virginia. During the trip to Zubers, we stopped briefly at Appomatix, where Lee surrendered to Grant to end the Civil War.
On Saturday we toured the Frontier Cultural Museum with the Zubers. This is somewhat like Sturbridge Village, but many of these buildings are authentic (shipped from Europe). Another difference is that while the "period people" are in proper dress and perform historical roles, they don't pretend to actually live in the past.
