Lake Taupo, the result of a volcanic blast is huge.

Not only is Taupo a cool town, there are neat attractions on its outskirts. Taupo Bungee lets people pay big bucks to essentially jump off a cliff to the Waikato River. Huka Falls were particularly impressive when we visited because of the recent heavy rains.

Craters of the Moon geothermal area ranks among the best we visted, and the only free one. Donations are accepted to supplement funds from a trust.

The first photo shows the Wairakei Geothermal Power location, which was adjacent to our camping area. The Barn campground is unique for its menagerie of wildlife.
