Before and after our days on the Galapagos Islands, we stayed a night on the mainland in Guayaquil, Ecuador. We didn't have any time for sightseeing on the mainland at the beginning of our trip, but on the way home we had a few hours for exploring. Guayaquil was modern and friendly.

Guayaquil has recently modernized its waterfront along the river. It reminded us of a low tech version of Shanghai, without annoying peddlers.
