TUESDAY
In the morning the bikers rode to the village of Tavel. On the way I took a photo of a forsythia type bush. Photo 2, which shows a planter with a vineyard in the background, was taken as we entered Tavel. The gang members in Photo 3 are Sandy Cole, Barbara Richardson, Jean Medrick, Millie and Dick Clark, Joan Stafford. (other Gang members were wine tasting some of the local product.) The remaining three photos were also taken in Tavel.
The ride back to the barge took us past more omnipresent vineyards, plus up a couple of good sized hills. The second photo shows Avignon as we approached it via bikes.
Avignon has an amazing bridge that dates back to Roman times. Photo 2 was taken on that bridge. Photo 3 was taken from a hillside overlooking the bridge. Photo 4, also taken from the hillside, shows our barge in the background.
The first photo shows the amazing wall that surrounds Avignon. The other 4 photos shows some cobbled streets as we made our way to the center of town.
The Catholic Church once had its "vatican" in Avignon. Photo 1 shows the Papal Palace from a distance, while the other photos give close up views.
These photos were taken as we walked away from the Papal Place, down the main street of Avignon.
