The members of the Cotingidae family live in Central America and tropical South Ameria. They have broad bills, with hooked tips, and strong legs. Many of the males are brightly colored, or decorated
with plumes or wattles. They eat fruit and insects.

Genus Cephalopterus
The umbrellabirds are almost entirely black, and have a conspicuous crest on the top of their head, vaguely resembling an umbrella. All have an inflatable wattle on the neck, which serves to amplify their loud, booming calls. Females resemble males, but are noticeably smaller and have a reduced crest and wattle.

Genus Procnias
Bellbirds are restricted to tropical or subtropical humid forested regions, often in low mountains or foothills. As indicated by their common name, they all have very loud voices. Males have at least partially white plumage, and facial wattles or bare facial skin. Females lack the wattles/bare facial skin, and are overall olive with yellowish streaks below.
