The members of the Cotingidae family live in Central America and tropical South Ameria. They have broad bills, with hooked tips, and strong legs. Many of the males are brightly colored, or decorated with plumes or wattles. They eat fruit and insects.

The umbrellabirds are almost entirely black, and have a conspicuous crest on the top of their head, vaguely resembling an umbrella. Bellbirds are restricted to tropical or subtropical humid forested regions, often in low mountains or foothills. As indicated by their common name, they all have very loud voices.
