Pnoepyga is a genus / family of cupwings endemic to southern and south eastern Asia. The genus has long been placed in the babbler family Timaliidae. A 2009 study of the DNA of the families Timaliidae and the Old World warblers (Sylviidae) found no support for the placement of the genus in either family, prompting a new monogeneric family, the Pnoepygidae. The cupwings are also known as wren-babblers.
The "wren-babblers" of family Pnoepygidae (Wren-Babblers) are not closely related to the "wren-babblers" of family Pellorneidae (Ground-Babblers).

Genus Pomatostomus
The Australo-Papuan babblers are medium-sized terrestrial birds with sombre plumage and long decurved bills. The wings are short and round, and the tail is long and often held fanned which makes it look broad as well. The feet and legs are strong and adapted to a terrestrial existence. There is no sexual dimorphism in the plumage, which is composed of brown, russet and grey colours, with all but the Papuan babbler having striking white markings on the face and throat.
