AURLAND

Photos 1 & 2 were taken as we approached Aurland. Photos 3 & 4 were taken as we were walking around Aurland.

Within a couple hundred feet of the ferry we saw a motel. It was not the one we had chosen from our guide book, but was convenient, nice, and reasonable - so we took it. Traveling off season makes it possible to do spur-of-the-moment changes. In fact, getting off the ferry and staying in Aurland was spur-of-the-moment. Auland was our favorite place to stay during the entire vacation, and that is saying a lot when you consider how neat Bergen is!

Photo1 - some building that comprised our "motel"
Photo 2 - the view out our window
Photo 3 - the sitting area of our room
Photo 4 - an elk statue close to the bus station [time to leave Aurland :( ]

FLAM TRAIN

We took the Flamsbana train from Flam to Mydal. In 12 miles we went from sea level to 2800 feet. The route is so steep that the train has five separate braking systems!

These photos were taken from the Flamsbana. The last photo was taken when the train had stopped for a scenic photo op of a waterfall. My photo was not very good because we were looking towards the sun, so I have resorted to a postcard's photo (that must have been taken in the spring as we did not see that much water)..

MYRDAL

Myrdal is essentially just a high altitude train station - there are a few homes, but the population must be under 50 people. We spent an hour here waiting to catch the train to Oslo, and enjoyed every minute of it.

After another day in Oslo (see previous photos), on to Sweden.
