After leaving Vickie and Marijan it took quite a while to get out of the LA traffic and building sprawl.
Two to three hours later we were in desert-like country.

We stayed in Quartzsite which had this type of terrain. There were lots of quartz rocks scattered throughout the area.
In town there were a lot of neat rock shops. Sandy chose this one to explore.

Leaving Quartzsite, we stopped for a short break at a Arizona State Park which had
a lake and old mining (?) equimpment.
